Sports Mania

When in Seattle, root like the hometown fans do—loudly!

From April through October, find the Seattle Mariners (*seattle.mariners.mlb.com) hitting the baseball diamond at Safeco Field (*1250 First Ave S; seattle.mariners.mlb.com/sea/ballpark), a 20-minute walk south of downtown. Outfield bleacher seats are as affordable as $5, while other prime options include Hit It Here Cafe, with table service and unimpeded views from right field, as well as seats in the King’s Court (section 150), which gives fans a King Felix T-shirt on days when star pitcher Felix Hernandez starts.

If soccer is more your style, you’re in luck. Seattle’s Sounders FC (*soundersfc.com) and Reign FC (reignfc.com) have dominated their respective professional leagues. Snatch up seats to watch top talent like Raúl Ruidíaz and hometown hero Jordan Morris take to the pitch at CenturyLink Field (*800 Occidental Ave S; centurylinkfield.com), March through October. Sounders supporters are a raucous crowd, so be prepared to stand up and cheer for most—if not all—of the game. Then see U.S. women’s national team players Megan Rapinoe and Sydney Leroux star with the Reign FC at Memorial Stadium (401 Fifth Ave N; seattlecenter.com) March through September.

For basketball fans, Sue Bird and the other leading ladies of the Seattle Storm (wnba.com/storm) hoop it up on the hard court at KeyArena (305 Harrison St; keyarena.com), June through September. And the Rat City Rollergirls (ratcityrollergirls.com) keep KeyArena crowds cheering during intense roller-derby bouts January through April, while the all-star team heats the flat track up during summer.

If you’re still craving more heart-pumping competition, join the oh-so-loud 12th Man crowds at CenturyLink Field, starting in September, as they cheer on star quarterback Russell Wilson, Skittles-popping running back Marshawn Lynch, and the rest of the Seattle Seahawks (*seahawks.com). Check team websites or Ticketmaster to purchase tickets.
